On 1 September, came the team from Westside Baptist Church in Florida in Arequipa and Lucho and I met at the airport. They spent the night in Arequipa and the morning we started in two-days trip to pause. We spent the first night in Caravel, and the next morning, after Cahuachi. The team wanted a Bible study with the mayor, who had already met, but he was busy, so that plans for the return trip. Take a shortcut that passes Pauseby Casirate, but this road was impassable due to landslides for about two years.
We asked the mayor and he said it was now open and we could pass without any problem. We've had conflicting reports so we asked if he was sure and he said yes, and it would feel to us only two instead of four hours on the opposite side of the road. He said they were working on the sewerage system just outside the village, but we could go through this and then there would be nice. Well, we went toDitch for a while, 'and then we came to a hole diameter of four feet in the road with a ditch in advance and that there is no way past. It would be very difficult, so once again the way it came, we pleaded with workers to fill the gap a bit 'in order to pass. We told them that the mayor had assured that we give and have been approved. We had to switch between the hole and the trench with a front wheel hanging over the ditch and the other rear wheel was hanging over the hole!It 'was close, but we finally made it.
Jubilee, party, expecting clear sailing from there. However, the road was very rough and rocky gravel washed by the rain, so it will be slow. It 'was getting worse, especially when the gorges, where the road was very narrow, and crossed deep cross ditches. After more than three hours we finally turned the corner and there in the middle of the street a big truck was stuck in the sand, with itsThe batteries on the ground. The man said the truck had been blocked for about four days. Was not found by passing on the left side and only a narrow ridge of soft sand on the right side. I had a shovel, so we lowered the ridge and extends to a path on the right to do, and put some boards make it a better way.
I put my truck into four wheel drive and slowly started with the truck. If I was right on the side of him I could feel the sand gives way, and I startedto overturn the truck. I stopped and tried to resolve a better way, and I started to broadcast. My luggage rack scratched the back corner of the box truck, but I have it thanks. More "street work" and Joe is now in liquidation, thank God, with less drama, and we're back on the road. After about four hours we arrived in time. Just to save two hours!
I have a break of almost two years so it was nice to connect again and again, is with the believers. Firsta couple of days we met with many of them as possible, and we did follow-up meetings to encourage them to continue to meet and new churches organized and equipped. We spent the time especially with the leaders who had tried to answer questions and to increase the basic teachings of the Church in them. We divided into three or four teams to cover as much ground as possible and has also worked with Cindy, brother, Tomas, and Antonio Pastor who live there and have been involved withMissionary and preaching for the last few years.
I was happy, good times with Tania and Wilman, enjoying life in San Sebastian. Were some of the first new believers, and now are very active in the management of work in their village. Wilman is the director of the school and Tania teaches in a program of women there, so that the rolls of respect in the community and have a great opportunity for the minister. On a previous trip, had asked a Christian marriageCeremony, as he had only a civil ceremony, which is the necessary legal marriage here in Peru. A young couple, have been teaching, called for a Christian marriage, and while we were there. They also asked to be baptized, along with three others Sunday afternoon. With the help and coaching by Antonio Pastor, Wilman has made his first marriage and baptism before.
If I could preach a couple of times, as well as being involved in different periods of teaching, whichwas a blessing, after not being very involved in mission work this year. I hope to return again in October, with a few others from Cotahuasi and Arequipa, but so far we are having trouble getting a schedule that works for everyone. A couple of the groups are struggling with various problems; a few others are doing well and a couple kind of drifting. They all need encouragement and prayer that God will continue to build His church there and draw the lost and hurting people to Himself.
When it was time to return to Arequipa, we decided it was wiser to take the long way back, rather than take the risk, the shortcut again, but none of us had for a few years ago. We arrived at a crossroads, and after consultation with the paper and the others, we are on the right side of the fork. About an hour later, we finally arrived at an isolated house, where we saw our first and people were able to ask directions. We had taken the wrong road, and we have now disappeared leaving. Fortunately, told a U.S.Link to the right path, and we only had 25 minutes to start over. The abbreviation shown to be an adventure, but it came right on the village Cahuachi. After a Bible study with the mayor, we made our attic, which is located on the sea, to spend the night.
The next day we had a simple but slow return to Arequipa, when you climb behind very slow moving trucks made again, and not to move because of fog. The team spent about 24 hours of relaxation,Shopping and sightseeing before going to Lima and back to the United States, the next day.
